MIT Sloan Interview

by Hella ~ December 3rd, 2003

To avoid the possibility of getting totally lost again, and since my friend offered to do the driving, I rode across Dallas to Irving to complete my MIT Sloan interview. It took place in a quiet hotel lobby.

This interview was very much different than the one earlier today. However, I expected this going in, but I was not as prepared as I could have been to provide the necessary level of detail.

Looking back on the experience, it would have served me well to think through several additional examples of topics addressed in the essays. It was sometimes stressful to quickly think up, prepare, and explain a thorough, very detailed scenario to the interviewer.

Here is a quick summary of what I remember. I was much more stressed during this interview since the style was more unnatural and there were several instances where we’d back up to discuss the particular of my thoughts.

  1. The interviewer greeted me and asked how I’d gotten in contact with the student I mentioned on the application.
  2. My transcript was quickly browsed and questions would have been asked if there had been any concerns.
  3. The interviewer looked through my file quickly and decided to start addressing the essay topics again, with more questions about why and how I acted and thought. I was asked to use examples other than those in my essays.
  4. I was given a chance to ask any questions; I had two.

The interview lasted almost exactly 45 minutes.

I have absolutely no feel for how the interview went or what I should be expecting in terms of a decision. For that, I suppose I will wait until Jan 12.
