Is Leona My Friend?
by Hella ~ January 14th, 2004To reward myself for finishing a 50K, I bought a new pair of Montrail running shoes. In the past, I had good luck with the Vitesse, but I ran into a sizing issue with the Melee and didn’t realize it until after I’d already run 3 miles in them (of course no store will exchange them at this point).
I settled on the Leona Divide and took them for their first spin this morning. The fit is good, though I’m surprised to find the big toe of my right foot sometimes hitting the end of the shoe. I purposely went a half size bigger for a roomier fit. This was the same issue I had with the Melee. I find it odd that I might need a full size higher than I normally wear. In fact, I’ve tried a full size higher and they feel much too bulky. Something is up with the toe box or my high arch or some combination of these things.
I continued with my arch support strategy by only putting one in my right foot. I am not sure if this works well in these shoes because my left leg was getting tired much sooner than my right. I think I will try with both inserts next and see what that feels like.
Overall, I’m going to have to say the Leona Divide is a comfortable fit and a nice ride for my feet, which are very picky about what they wear.
