The Da Vinci Code
by Hella ~ February 29th, 2004Wow! I have never been so addicted to flipping the pages in a book. It’s a good thing I decided to buy this on a weekend because I spent all day Saturday and today in the story.
I must say that even though this is a “popular” work and not a classic, it is probably my favorite book of all time. The short chapters make for a quick read. Having recently been to Paris, many of the scenes described were particularly interesting.
Dan Brown does a great job in his use of simultaneous plots and this book really reads like a movie (little did I know that a movie is already in the works). There are many references to things both ancient and modern, and even a humorous mention of Harry Potter. It is one very well put together story with many pieces that made me want to look up and scrutinize famous pieces of art. One of my favorite things about the book is how the author does short one-liners to let you know the characters’ silent thoughts. These comments add clarity and enhance the conversation-like style.
I’m still in disbelief that I managed to stay focused and read through 454 (that number is also significant in the book … coincidence?) pages in under 40 hours. I didn’t focus entirely on the book this weekend but I did spend the majority of my time with it. I had planned to get my running back on track, but this was definitely not a bad trade-off.
Thanks go to Helen for getting me to realize maybe I should spend some time reading things for enjoyment before I start my time in August at Wharton.

Just read the Da Vinci code last w/e, picked it up after being stranded in Gatwick for 3 hours (condoleances to the bird who got stuck in the engine, and thanks for the delay!), turned out to be a fab read…on B-School books, I’m reading Monkey Business which is an easy read but I don’t find it very well written…and I’m only reading out of curiosity I’m not working in banking and won’t after Bschool either. I think I’ll pick up Jack Welsh’s book after that, prob more fascinating. See you in Philly.

yaah!! I am trying to get hold of this book in the county library or else i am planning to buy it – it has been on the NY best seller list for the last 47 weeks and Dan Brown has become an overnight celebrity.
I would recommend reading Collin’s “Built to Last” (if you haven’t read as yet) – which i am currently reading. The theories propounded and discovered by the Stanfords profs about visionary companies are fascinating.
and regarding page numbers, i remember “atlas shrugged” or “fountainhead” – even though both of these books go into 1000 – i am 100% confident that you won’t be able to keep the book down before you reach the last page :)
