Submitting the MPN
by Hella ~ March 22nd, 2004I received a mailing today from AES-PHEAA Guaranty Services that contained details of how to complete my Master Promissory Note (MPN). One of the documents included was a laundry list of lenders and there was also a document that can be completed and mailed in to process the MPN. After looking over the mailing for a good while, I decided to try to log onto American Education Services (AES) to see what I could find.
As I had suspected, it turns out that you can electronically submit the MPN. If you have a U.S. Department of Education PIN, you can use it to electronically sign your MPN without having to mail anything in. This is the option I went for since I already had a PIN. In order to make an electronic submission, it is necessary to create an account with AES but this step is very easy.
Some information on the form is pre-populated but you are required to complete the following information:
- E-mail Address
- Choice of Lender (I went with “Univ of Pennsylvania” instead of “PHEAA” since the UPenn SFS website says to use Univ of Pennsylvania)
- Two references (these people are not liable for repayment and cannot share the same address)
- Interest Payments (decide whether to pay unsubsidized interest while in school)
- Your signature (or PIN if you are signing electronically)
So far, the process of applying for Financial Aid has been much less cumbersome that I had imagined. I hope there aren’t any issues with the processing of my MPN and it will be a smooth process throughout.
