Lake Out and Back

by Hella ~ March 30th, 2004

I took the kayak out late this afternoon for the first time in a long time. The sun was just about setting when I put the boat in the water. I made a lazy stroll down under 4 bridges and back to where I came.

There were several rowers out and their support boats were creating quite a bit of wake. Sometimes it’s safest to point the boat perpendicular to the wake so the boat resists tipping. I wish they wouldn’t drive their boats so fast on a river that is mostly meant for hand-powered watercraft.

The trip back was nice and peaceful as it was just after dusk. The water was super calm until I got almost back to the shore when I saw a swan attacking his friend. He had the other goose pinned in some tall grass and they were making quite a commotion.
