Computer Mayhem

by Hella ~ July 23rd, 2004

Today marked my third trip to Computer Connection in an attempt to pick up my order. I had originally placed an order for a T42 laptop (with 512MB additional RAM), Microsoft Office 2003 Pro, and an HP 1300 printer. On my first trip, I learned that my laptop wasn’t yet available for pickup but would be the next day. That was Monday. I also learned that Microsoft Office was on backorder since the vendor hadn’t yet shipped it and that all the memory upgrades were used up for people who chose to have their items shipped. Since I was picking up on campus, I got the short end of the stick. I went back on Wednesday of this week and my laptop and printer were ready for pickup but the software and memory was still out of stock. So today, after learning that some people had received their shipments of the office software, I returned hoping to pick mine up. Again I learned that all the stock had been used to fulfill shipped orders but they actually had the memory. I came home and installed the memory myself without trouble. It was a matter of simply removing the back panel and snapping the chip in place. While I’m glad to have my system, I’m a bit annoyed at the fact that had I chosen to have my items shipped, I’d already have what I need. I thought picking things up would be more convenient but I guess that’s just not the way it works.

And how annoying is it that you don’t receive notification when your stuff is ready? Seems like some sort of “your stuff is here” email would cut down on the calls they receive - but what do I know?

They’ve mentioned that they would call when the items arrived but my RAM was there today and my phone wasn’t ringing!
