Hit Me With Your Best Shots

by Hella ~ August 11th, 2004

So I started the morning with a trip over to the Student Health Services building and I made it there just in time for my 10am immunization appointment. I was scheduled for 2 shots, a tetanus booster and the first of three shots in the hepatitis B series. In less than 10 minutes, the experience was over and there was really almost no pain or discomfort … well, not until my walk home! While walking, I was holding my cell phone in the same position for about 25 minutes. When I went to relax my arm, I could barely move it but I managed to work the stiffness out. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s ok in the morning.

But enough about all the small things, how about classes? This week has been about buckling down and getting focused. As Pre-Term started, I wasn’t really sure which levels I wanted to take for statistics and accounting. Having studied both courses in the past 5 years, I really didn’t want to go into the beginning courses. I decided to play it safe with accounting and planned to sit in on the advanced section and then decide. Well the decision wasn’t very hard. The material in the first two sessions was both dry and dull but it was flying by at 70 miles per hour and I was hoping to enforce a 30 mile per hour speed limit. So I shall wait for the intermediate level course to begin and hope that things work out. I’ll find out about my decision with statistics tomorrow (first class).

Today also marked my second visit to a yummy and cheap food truck right on Spruce. Their tofu dishes are around $2.50 but this morning I decided to go all out and lay down a full $3 to try the sesame chicken. I’m happy to report that it was tasty with no apparent unfortunate side effects.

After a quick lunch, I attended another managerial economics lecture where the topic of the day was game theory. It was good to revisit these interesting topics and once again the instructor was entertaining and quite engaging. I think I might look for an elective that he teaches since I’ll be making use of the auction for the fall semester.

Tonight has been loaded with reviewing the math camp notes for tomorrow’s lecture. I went ahead and reviewed the entire package since we only have two meetings and I cannot afford to be lost during either of these 3-hour cram sessions. I have also been diving into some of the statistics waiver exams from past years. I have a lot to catch up on there but hopefully I can make some good progress after the first meeting tomorrow at 3pm.

I haven’t been to any of my optional Pre-Term activities but I’m really looking forward to the Phillies game, the career talk on careers in investment banking, and the trading simulation. Those are all next week.

Even though things have been really busy, I’ve been taking some time to myself for dinner. I’ve walked down to the South Street area twice this week to check out some of the restaurants there. I had Bridget Foy’s on Monday and my tilapia was delicious. Tonight I opted for a falafel sandwich at South Street Souvlaki and it was ok but not the best I’ve had so I finished it off with a blizzard from Dairy Queen. While it wasn’t Scoop DeVille (my favorite place for dessert here), it hit the spot.
