Running for Time

by Hella ~ August 29th, 2004

I need to build my base mileage back up so I went out for today’s run with a different goal. I planned to run for an hour and worry less about the mileage I’m covering. I think this will be a better way for me to work on a solid pace and as I run the same route over many times, I’ll be able to see if my speed is improving or not. Mentally it’s a shift and I think it’ll be more motivating to think about running for an hour in stead of going out to log 7 miles.

Today’s run was great. I held a consistent pace the entire way and only stopped where traffic signals made it unsafe to cross the road. I went out for 30 minutes and then turned around and came right back the same way. I made a mental note of my turnaround point so I can see any improvements on later runs. I finished up just over 30 seconds less than my first half. It was a great workout.
