The Real Deal

by Hella ~ September 9th, 2004

The past week or so has been a blur of getting into a real routine and making sure that I’m somewhat doing everything I need to do. So far I haven’t had any major blips and doing the required readings and homeworks doesn’t seem all that painful. Of course a lot of the material is still review but I’m sure it’ll soon get going at break-neck speed. Also, things with the Learning Team are going well after a nice retreat.

The course auction has been a pain in the neck because I’ve just recently been able to bid on classes. The second years were able to bid for stuff last Spring but my class didn’t get in on the action until yesterday. This means that a lot of the courses I’d like to take are already full and going for inflated prices. So my first week has been filled with “shopping” for courses and a lot of hope that I’ll get the sections I’ll need. I’ve adopted the “go cheap early” strategy and it’s working out for me so far. I really only have one last decision/bid to iron out and hopefully that’s done by today at 5P. In the end, I would like to have at least 2 electives in addition to the core Financial Analysis and Accounting courses.

I also entered the Leadership Ventures auction. I’m hoping to win a random spot on one of the ventures since I’m sure it will go for the full amount of points and ties will need to be broken randomly.

This afternoon at 5 there is a meeting for Follies writers. I’m not sure I’d qualify as funny but I kinda want to go see what it’s all about anyways. The email said there are less than 90 days to prepare the script. That seems so quick considering we’ll have everything else going on. Tonight is also the first MBA Pub of the semester. We had a Pub in Pre-Term but this will be the first real one with both classes. It will probably be very packed and pizza will be even harder to get than ever, but I’m going to try my shot at it.

Tomorrow I’m going with a few friends to see Gloria Estefan in concert. It’ll only be the second concert I’ve been to but I wanted to catch more shows since I now live somewhere that a lot of popular people will come to. After that it’s a weekend packed with getting ahead on homeworks and readings and making sure my schedule for the next week has minimal conflicts.
