Effective Networking

Today at lunch I attended an 80 minute interactive seminar on how to develop a better personal sales pitch. The speaker was a Wharton MBA alum and she’s currently involved with executive coaching. Not only was she great at presenting her information, she made it fun and interesting and got us thinking about many the things to avoid in recruiting type scenarios. We were asked to pair up with a classmate then went through a couple of impromtu exercises to discuss 3 admirable qualities about someone else and then about ourselves. We had 30 seconds to complete the pitches. My partner and I consistently ran over the time allotted so it was clear that we needed to work on brevity. Towards the end of the session, the speaker engaged some audience members to present their personal pitches for the entire group. I was impressed by all three of the students who spoke and the speaker mentioned only minor areas for improvement. This is probably one of the most informative and helpful sessions I’ve attended.
