First Chilly Run

by Hella ~ October 20th, 2004

I’ve not really gone out for a good long run since the weather has turned colder but I guess I was a bit surprised to see so few people out on the trail considering that I’m sure there are people that are training for the Philadelphia Marathon (which runs one month from tomorrow). Oh well, it’s nice to not have it so crowded, especially with fast bikers and rollerbladers zooming in both directions.

I stopped at my usual half-way mark of 5 miles then again around mile 9 for a brief walk to lower my heart rate. I’m going to start monitoring my HR more often now that I’ve got a nice new toy to do it with (thanks R.). Maybe I’ll be able to pin down just what level I need to stay below in order to prevent that bad metallic taste that builds up and makes me want to pull over and vomit. That’d be good. Oh, my shoes are approaching the 300 mile point and they seem to have lost some of their cushion. I think it’s about time to replace them.
