Endless ToDos
by Hella ~ November 6th, 2004This weekend is possibly my busiest yet and next week is shaping up to be an all out doozie. I’ve got two big exams, one Monday and the other Tuesday. I also have a speech to give in my Comm class on Monday. A finance problem set is due on Tuesday. All of this plus the fact that I get back two big midterm grades on Monday … ick. When it rains, it pours, and sometimes it comes an all out hurricane. It’s a good thing I bought myself one of those high-tech umbrellas that won’t turn inside out. Have you seen those? I quickly figured out after the first week of recruiting where I had to swim the 400-meter freestyle to an 8PM Employer Information Session that high quality rain protection is worth it.
Speaking of recruiting, it has me in a frazzle. We’re entering the “high touch” portion of first year recruiting, at least in investment banking, where there are more panels and dinners rather than firm-wide presentations. A lot of the events require an RSVP and then they choose a group to attend. You can begin to look at it as a huge snowball effect and doubt yourself for having done too little networking in the past few weeks. It’s easy to think, “I haven’t done enough, so I’m not going to get invited to dinner, then I probably won’t get an interview, either, which means I won’t get a summer internship and will have trouble getting a full-time offer so I’m never going to get my $100,000 loan pad off…” Oh the joys.
You know, you’ll hear people say b-school is a 2-year vacation, but I’m not sure I needed 2 full years away from sanity! :-)
