Light at the End of the Funnel
by Hella ~ December 6th, 2004Welcome to madness. An entire weekend of it. I should have seen my sign on Friday night around midnight when one of the Finance Club officers emailed asking for help for Saturday morning’s valuation class. None of the other officers had yet volunteered to help out with passing out booklets, administering breakfast, and various other duties. Well, I sent an affirmative response and set my alarm back an hour.
I got to the valuation right on time thanks to taking a cab instead of riding the trolley. I slept in as much as I could which didn’t leave breathing room to wait for the trolley. The morning was at least off to a good start as I carried in about 5 boxes full of training materials. I started greeting classmates by handing out the booklets and explaining our very robust security system of going in and out of the room.
The valuation course was taught by a very energetic and knowledgeable person from Training the Street. I am happy to report that I stayed awake for the entire session and even stayed 15 minutes late as we wrapped up with the LBO topic. It was well worth the $30 fee I paid but it was a reminder that I had a long weekend of valuation yet to go. The finance case was due in a couple days and I had a lot of effort to put in.
Sunday was spent looking over Finance, prepapring materials for my final speech in communication class tomorrow, reviewing a presentation my marketing team will present to tomorrow’s class, and talking to DGSAC teammates. I snuck in dinner around 9:30pm only to come right back to the valuation and speech. On top of all this, teammates for both projects were involved with other groups not the least of which was the BCG Case Competition. I don’t know how, but my marketing group has managed to finish off 90% of our entire project which isn’t due until Dec 20th. Thank goodness for this; it is quite possibly the most efficient display of teamwork I have seen to date.
So I sit here at 3am waiting to post the final finance case file to a folder on the designated website. I’m giving teammates 15 minutes of time to respond with any concerns. Another couple of members coordinated the production of the file while I served more of a quality assurance role.
It has been one freaking hell of a week and this coming week will not be any better. Resumes and cover letters are due by Dec 9th to just about every employer imagineable. There is a light at the end … but why is this tunnel looking more and more like a funnel?
