Long Day in Dulles
by Hella ~ February 24th, 2005Today I started at 5am by waking up, getting a shower, and going downstairs to get in the rental car to go pickup my teammates. We were on the road out of Philadelphia by 610am. We knew we’d be running into some nasty weather and weren’t looking forward to the drive.
The competition went a bit better than expected but we were not near as prepared as we should have been. With a couple of members with other conflicts, our team had only 3 people and our momentum was just a bit too late in terms of making progress on the case problem.
After the case, we sat around and had lunch until the results were announced around 105pm. We knew it’d be a long shot to win our room (there were 3 rooms with 2 teams each, the top team from each room advancing to the finals). We were actually just exhausted and wanted to head home. It was no surprise that the other team in our room was selected to move on. We quickly gathered our things and headed back.
The drive bad was nasty. There was blowing snow pretty much the whole way. Luckily we had a spiffy Buick Lacrosse to drive and it made it rather enjoyable. After sliding a bit on Broad Street, we filled up with gas and then I dropped my teammates off at their apartments. Then I unloaded my things at the apartment, returned the car, and walked back home. It’s good to be done with today. Too bad I’m so tired (we finished working on the case around 145am this morning so I only got 2.5-3hrs sleep) that Pub is out of the question.
