Pedestrian Philadelphia
by Hella ~ February 27th, 2005One of the things I love most about living in Philadelphia (and I never thought I’d admit this) is not having a car but still being able to get where I want just by walking. From the Deleware River to the campus, I can walk pretty much anywhere I want to go. Combined with the public transit system, it’s pretty easy to get around South Philly, too. I’ve ventured as far as Ikea by taking the Broad Street Line down to Snyder and then walking about a mile or so. Really not too bad.
With a hectic week behind me and final exams coming up, I took some time this morning to walk over to Whole Foods in the Art Museum area. It’s really quite a short walk from where I live though it kind of limits what and how much I buy. I stocked up on pistachios, almonds, and some fruits and vegetables before heading back to the apartment.
Most of the afternoon was spent looking over practice problems for accounting and reading through tomorrow’s case for BPUB. The reading for BPUB was longer than usual and I’m glad it’s the last one. Just the final to go and that misery is done. Accounting will probably be a lot harder than we expect because the material at many times seems obvious.
Speaking of being able to walk around the city, it might be a good thing considering SEPTA is all up in arms.

Well, I’m glad it’s easier to get *around* the city than it is to get *out* of it :) Not needing a car and being able to walk the city is definitely a selling point. The airport? Not so much.

I wonder why SEPTA is so inefficient. They can’t even accomodate getting Penn students 1 mile down Walnut on days with bad weather. I hope my tokens still work after the raise. Maybe I should go buy 100 of them.

Yeah, I wondered if they’d change the tokens, also. But I think they are going to leave them exactly the same; that’s why there was a limit on buying more than X packs at a time. I think they recently relaxed that limit at most places.
