Vicarious Ventures

Ok, so lots of students here bid on spots in the Wharton Leadership Ventures. So many that for the most popular trips, it’s a complete random process as to who gets chosen to go (with the exception of 2nd years who can sometimes get priority if they’ve not been on a venture). This year I bid on the Spring Break trip to Pumalin, which I did not win in the initial auction. However, a spot ended up opening and I was invited to participate. However, I’d already decided on other plans so I turned it down. But I am still going on a venture this next week, albeit in a very vicarious way. On my way to the DGSAC meeting this afternoon, I got off a very packed SEPTA trolley and walked up the stairs with one of my neighbors. Turns out he’s headed on the Ecuador Mountaineering Trek and leaving tomorrow. He was in need of a pair of ski goggles and I offered mine up. So a part of me will be on the trip. Over Christmas Break, I lent my 0-degree sleeping bag to a friend who took it on the trip to Antarctica. Not only did I get the sleeping bag back, but she brought me a really cool t-shirt. Thanks F!

So where are you going for your venture?

They have an alumni venture over to Everest that looks interesting. Patagonia also looks fun.
