Whole Lot of Nothing?

by Hella ~ March 3rd, 2005

I had big plans for today and ended up accomplishing only the small, but important, items on my to-do list. I started by taking a relaxing morning cleaning around the apartment. I’ve also been doing laundry all day since I’m gearing up for a short trip tomorrow.

The first item I checked off was to pick up my foreign currency that I’d ordered at the bank. After waiting around in the lobby for a while, the kind woman who helped me order it came from the bank with my envelope in her hand. Easy enough.

I then headed over to the optometrist to see what could be done about the glasses I’d bought last month. I’m not happy with the way they fit and they were bothering me due to the way they sit on my nose. I mulled over the options, which included keeping the same pair but sending them back for a saddle-bridge nose-piece but was worried that I’d have the same thing with those. So instead I exchanged them for a really different pair. The new style is definitely funky but I like it.

After sorting out that bit of business, I walked back across town to the Criminal Justice Center. You see, I had the good fortune of being selected for Jury Duty here in Philadelphia later this month. I talked with the academic advisers at school and the kind folks in the MBA Program Office helped me out with a letter that states I’m a full-time student until 2006. I got through security at the CJC (you have to check your cell phone at the door!) and headed up to the second floor, room 204 (”Jury Administration”). A very kind woman there explained how the selection process works in a few Pennsylvania counties and then told me she’d be removing me from the list for several years. She said if I were to receive another notice, just mail in a copy of the letter and I’d be excused. She was really a nice lady and it was in such contrast to the person I had dealt with on the phone. Oh, when I first walked into the office, she was reading a website that said SEPTA might strike. I guess I’ll be doing a whole lot of walking if that’s the case.

I made a quick stop in Tokyo Express on Chestnut (between 17th and 18th), my favorite fast sushi place. I ate my lunch and then headed to campus for my 4:30pm DGSAC meeting. Now I’m back home finishing up laundry and packing my bags for tomorrow morning’s flight. It’ll be my first trip on USAir and my first trip to Canada. Hopefully it’s not too cold to enjoy Spring Break!
