Spending Time Off

by Hella ~ May 23rd, 2005

Since the end of the semester (I was done with exams on May 4), I haven’t really been up to much other than driving around to visit family and friends. I started the vacation off by driving down to Wilmington, North Carolina to spend a couple days at a bed and breakfast. My real reason for going to North Carolina was to watch a half-ironman triathlon in White Lake that Saturday. One of my past roommates was doing the race and I’d never watched a triathlon so I thought it would be fun. From Wilmington, I drove up to Raleigh and flew to Dallas to spend a week with family. Then down to Houston for a week. I just got back from a weekend in Austin where I spent time with some of my best friends there. As much as I was ready to leave Austin and move on to something new, I was realizing this weekend all that I miss about how life used to be. Things are now more busy, I don’t spend as much time running, and the weather makes it harder to train through the winter. I’m hoping to change my habits next year by spending more time on the trails.

So this week I’m just hanging around the house and enjoying the really hot weather (high 90s). It’s my last week off before I head back up to Philadelphia and then almost immediately head up to NYC. I still haven’t seen my apartment where I’ll be living for a couple months and I’m anxious to get settled in there so I can focus my attention on work. I’m also looking forward to hopefully spending some time getting to know Central Park.
