Orientation Wrap-Up
by Hella ~ June 3rd, 2005I just got in from dinner, but I’m in Philadelphia. After work I zipped home, packed some things up, left the apartment, made two subway transfers, and then ran (literally) down East Broadway to catch the Chinatown bus. A block away from the bus, I saw it starting to pull away from the curb so I ran across oncoming traffic to flag it down. Fortunately the driver stopped and allowed me to board.
Today was a pretty long day but mostly mental. In actual hours, it was the shorted day. But something about 5.5 hours of a yield curve analytics lecture made for a rough time. Oh, and then an exam at the end. It was pretty tough and I didn’t get a chance to answer all the questions. A lot of the concepts were brand new to me so at times I struggled to follow the lecture. Before today’s lectures, we had a short session on leadership and how the firm is implementing a new program to develop the employees. The speaker was good. At the end of the day, right after the exam, we had a research-only meeting where we were briefed on some of the highlights that pertained specifically to our program. We were actually done right around 5:00pm.
I’m planning to do some weekend reading to build some background knowledge in my coverage areas for the summer. Since it actually feels like I’m working again (up early, to bed late, and really tired at the end of the day), I’m looking forward to having the weekend to spend exactly as I wish. Even though I’ll be doing some work, it still feels like a mini-vacation. And gee, I thought at times the school schedule seemed exhausting! :-)
