Early and Late
by Hella ~ June 20th, 2005Work seems like it gets earlier and later at the same time. I’m finding myself making it to the subway before 6am and waiting a good 10-15 minutes on the train to start running. By the time I make it to work (and usually stop by Starbucks and see if they can get my drink right), it’s pushing 6:45. I find that 7:30 is the earliest I even consider leaving, and even at that time, there are still plenty of people going at it full steam.
Speaking of Starbucks (my lovely summer internet provider), they have this new malt add-in for drinks. They market it as a way to add flavor to a Frappuccino. Well anyway, I thought it’d be good to try the mocha light frappuccino with some malt. The first one I ordered was made perfectly and it tasted great, almost like an ice cream malt. It went downhill from there. When I went to order it again at my usual store, the guy came back with “we don’t have malt.” I proceeded to walk over to the counter and pick up the large sign that was advertising it. Hmm … I think it was a bit early for me … and I hadn’t had my coffee. Anyhow, the workers since have either not known where to find it on the register or forgotten to add it in.
But that’s not work related. I’m working on the same projects I started with. They are both pretty time consuming, particularly since I haven’t worked in finance before. I still have a lot to learn but I get a feeling that soon I’ll hit one of those spots on the learning curve where some things will come together. Already I can tell a difference in the amount I understand in the morning meetings where the traders discuss their positions and strategies for the day. It helps that we have started getting together as a group once a week to discuss the questions we have that specifically arise out of the morning meeting.
That’s about all for now. I’m pretty tired and should get to bed early tonight but I think I’m gonna read some non-work related stuff for a while.
