Summer Job Summary

by Hella ~ August 8th, 2005

My 10 weeks were officially over last week but I’m just getting around to writing things up. On Friday afternoon of last week, after meeting with a couple of people at the office and turning in my badge, I went to Budget rental car, drove to my apartment in NYC, ran up and down the stairs about 10 times to load my stuff, and headed back to Philadelphia. Needless to say, I was ready to get back.

I had a really disappointing experience at my job for a couple of reasons: 1) I wasn’t working on the type of projects I’d expected to have going in, and 2) I’m not sure my personality was the best fit with the team. I kept focusing on getting work done and not on how things weren’t going so well and in the end, it worked out. I did receive a full-time offer and that’s a very good thing. If I choose to interview for other jobs in October, explaining why I didn’t get an offer shouldn’t be necessary. And the fact that I didn’t enjoy what I was doing but still did a good job will hopefully speak to the fact that I work hard no matter what.

So where do I go from here? I’m working on that myself. For now, is time for a couple of weeks off and some travel to the West Coast where I’ve never really visited. I’ll be stopping through San Francisco, Seattle, and Phoenix before heading back to Philadelphia the last week of August. It’ll still leave me with about a week to settle in before class starts on September 7th.
