It’s been a while

by Hella ~ December 15th, 2005

A full month since my last post, *sigh*. Things have been busy. And with a cold currently threatening to make my last two finals even more dreadful, I’m ready for this semester to be over. The recruiting process wore me down pretty good. Combined with a stack of classes that I didn’t know a lot about going in, the workload has been higher than I would have liked. But I’ve managed to make it and by Wednesday of next week, things should be much better.

Since I last posted, a lot has happened.

  • I decided to accept one of my full-time offers. (huge mental overhang gone after that)
  • I attended my first “sell weekend”. (and there was no stress since I’d already accepted)
  • I ran the 2005 Philadelphia Marathon. (nice mental uplift after actually finishing with next to no training, sounds quite familiar to last year’s story)
  • My duties as a graduate assistant for the admissions committee are complete for round 1. (round 2 workload will be heavier, but at least I have no recruiting to do)
  • I finally got a look at the windows decorated for Christmas in New York City. (ok, it was a bit more crowded than I would have liked, but the weather was great for the most part; taking the train back to Philadelphia at 3am, not so great for the most part!)
  • It’s now cold in Philadelphia and the frozen ice/snow build-up along the sides of roads reminds me that careful footing can never be undervalued. (I wasn’t sure I was quite ready to move back to Texas because of the heat; now it’s looking pretty darn good)

So it’s back to focusing on my last two final exams. Both are finance courses so there’s a lot that I’ll need to prepare for (these are the two classes I’ve been the most lost in all semester). I guess it’s extra intimidating when most of the people in the courses seem to be able to answer questions in their sleep, by virtue of being born knowing these concepts or having worked in the industry for many years before business school.

Back to making some attempt at being prepared for tomorrow’s exam!

  1. Clear Admit: MBA Admissions Consultants and Counselors Blog

[...] Turning to the MBA campus, the blogosphere was inundated with reports from final exams in the last week. MargaritaLuvr mentions that finals at CBS are “no joke”, LadyRattler reports on finals and GND at Stanford, FutureMBAGirl celebrates the end of the semester at Wharton (while Hella still has some work to do) and Wakechick wraps up the quarter at Chicago (see LeVoyageur’s Chicago summary too). Keven also checked in with a finals update from Wisconsin, Jerry Blank seems to have created his own mid-term awards at Yale, Buckyhoo describes a marketing final at UNC, Ben reflects on changes at Ross/Michigan and Amit checks in after finishing exams at IIM. Closing out our exams/curriculum segment, we turn to KV, who is trying to finish up the semester at LBS, IESE-MBA-2007, who has learned a lot at IESE and DeathSpiral, who offers a list of things to do instead of studying at INSEAD!
