Max and Sofie turn 6
by Hella ~ April 28th, 2006Max and Sofie celebrated their 6th birthday today in Philadelphia.
Now that I’ll be moving into a much bigger place, I’m considering getting another pair of kittens to liven things up. Something about a carpeted stairway and 4 cats with claws sounds like it might spell trouble!
A bit of history
It wasn’t until August 5th, 2000 that I got to pick them up from the breeder in Austin. When I went into the room where she kept the kittens, Sofie made it a point to hide beside one of the cages. Max just sat on top of another cage across the room loving the attention he was getting. Sofie finally warmed up slightly but was still terrified when I brought her home. Max was so small that the breeder kept him for 5 more days before I could pick him up. She suspected he’d always be small but he’s turned out to be quite the big guy (2 pounds heavier than Sofie).

About the breed

Was Googling “Tonkinese” in Labor an Delivery at 4A, and I came across Max and Sophie to show them off to the nurses!

do they shed alot? my family and i were looking at getting one and were wondering.

The do shed a fair bit. Usually when you pick them up, you’ll get a good amount of hair on your shirt. I think regular grooming could reduce that but it likely won’t go away to an unnoticeable level.
