Cooking spam
by Hella ~ May 4th, 2006I took this site down temporarily to allow myself to tame the comment and trackback spam. It had cluttered my database so much that real comments were actually getting marked as spam (WordPress seemed to try to learn, but perhaps it overlearned?). Now that I have that sorted out, you’ll find a lot of previously made comments on the appropriate posts.
Also, it seems that my comment_count field in wp_posts was far out of sync. WordPress uses this field to display the number of comments at the bottom of posts. With this error, it always looked like there were no comments.
In the end, I cooked over 4500 pieces of spam. Let’s hope using the Akismet plugin will help keep future cookouts to a minimum.
