Life’s not a beach
by Hella ~ May 6th, 2006So it’s Saturday May 6, one day since Wharton Beach Week started down in Miami, yet I’m still up in Philadelphia. Why? There are several reasons actually, but the most annoying of which is the fact that I haven’t sold all my furniture (and that absolutely must happen). However, over the past two days I’ve managed to find buyers for the last two major pieces. All the rest of the stuff could go back to Texas if it doesn’t sell.
I started listing items on Craigslist over a month ago. Some items moved quickly while others had more limited interest. And some buyers were friendly enough to schedule appointments to pick up the items only to back out an hour before they were due to arrive.
My original plan from May 2004 has worked out. I planned to leave Texas with only 2 of my favorite (and recently purchased) leather chairs and a durable modern metal bed and come back the same way. IKEA was definitely a good move and one I’d recommend to any students making a cross-country move. I simply stopped at IKEA on my way to Philadelphia (all my things still in the moving truck), bought what I wanted, loaded it up, and moved in. Of course I spent the next 4 days putting together the three bazillion parts according to directions with absolutely no words, but that’s beside the point :-)
